Mapping Fence Runs, Gates, and Distances

Start with the map

Use the map to represent the proposed fence geometry before fine-tuning material assumptions. Each fence segment should follow the intended installation path closely enough for planning.

Drawing and editing

  • Draw one or more independent fence polylines.
  • Each click creates a node that can represent a corner or terminal point.
  • Move, insert, or delete vertices to correct the route.
  • Use undo/redo when available.
  • Review both segment distance and cumulative distance.

Gates

Place gates on the intended fence run and enter the gate width. Gate openings reduce net wire footage and may add terminal posts and brace assemblies according to the selected configuration.

Optional post preview

The tool may show estimated line-post positions based on post spacing. Treat this as a planning visualization, not a field layout guarantee.

Terrain adjustment

If Advanced Settings includes a terrain or slope adjustment, use it only when you have a reason to account for additional installed length. Keep the assumption visible in the report.

Check before calculating materials

Zoom in and inspect every corner, gate, and endpoint. Mapping errors propagate into wire, post, brace, labor, and cost estimates.
