Keep three concepts separate
The Pasture Acreage Calculator intentionally distinguishes:
- Gross measured area — the full mapped pasture polygon.
- Net measured area — gross area less mapped exclusions.
- Adjusted usable area — net area after optional user-entered planning reductions such as brush/timber, slope, or inaccessible area.
Exclusions
Use exclusion polygons for internal areas that should not count toward the pasture's net measured acres, such as a pond, barn/lot, timber, rock/outcrop, crop area, no-graze/conservation area, or custom exclusion.
Why this distinction matters
A measured acre is not automatically a usable grazing acre. Keeping the measurements separate makes the estimate easier to audit and prevents a planning adjustment from being mistaken for a mapped boundary.
Project totals
Review pasture-level values first, then project totals for gross acres, exclusions, net acres, adjusted usable acres, and perimeter.
Survey limitation
The mapped result is an operational planning measurement, not a legal survey.
