Open a project
- Open the same RanchAssist tool that created the project.
- Select Open Project.
- Choose the
.rafile from your device. - RanchAssist reads the file locally and validates it.
- If the file is compatible, the editable state is restored.
- The tool recalculates derived values using the current calculation logic.
What RanchAssist checks
Before restoring a project, the tool checks that:
- the file can be read and parsed;
- it is marked as a RanchAssist project file;
- required project metadata exists;
- the
.raformat version is supported; - the project belongs to the current tool;
- the tool-specific state is valid;
- spatial data is valid when applicable.
Older project files
When practical, a tool may migrate an older supported schema to the current structure. In that case, you may see a message such as Project updated.
Newer or wrong-tool files
RanchAssist will not guess when a file was created by a newer unsupported version or a different tool. Open the file in the correct tool or update to a compatible tool version.
After the project opens
Review key results and warnings before continuing. Recalculation may produce a different result if calculation logic, rounding, or validation has improved since the project was last saved.
