Choose the geometry that matches the feature
Use polygons for areas, lines for linear infrastructure or natural features, and points for discrete locations.
Polygon examples
Ranch boundary, pasture, trap, hay field, crop field, no-graze area, brush/wooded area, custom.
Line examples
Fence, ranch road, water line, cattle lane, electric fence, creek/drainage, custom.
Point examples
Gate, pond, trough, well, water meter, pump, barn, shop, house, corral, chute, loading area, feeders, cattle guard, culvert, hunting blind, hazard, incident marker, custom.
Feature editor
Select a feature to edit its name, category, notes, optional dimensions/capacity, visibility, and style preset; or duplicate, delete, or zoom to it.
Layer panel
Use grouping, show/hide, lock/unlock, rename, reorder, zoom-to, and search to manage a larger map. The legend should reflect categories actually used in the project.
Keep the map operational
Use names and notes that help someone understand the feature in the field, not just how it looks on the map.
