Forage, Utilization, Reserve, and Herd Demand Assumptions

Forage supply begins with user-entered production

The tool depends on the forage production value you provide. Confirm both the amount and the unit before comparing it with herd demand.

Utilization and harvest efficiency

These assumptions represent how much of the standing forage you expect to become available to the livestock under the planning scenario. They are not universal recommendations.

Residual or reserve

A reserve setting intentionally leaves part of the forage out of the available supply calculation. This can represent the user's desired residual or planning reserve.

Drought buffer

A drought or conservative buffer reduces available forage further. Use it as a scenario assumption rather than a forecast.

Herd demand

Animal demand is driven by average live weight and daily dry-matter intake percentage. A heavier animal or higher intake percentage increases daily demand.

Compare scenarios carefully

When comparing cases, change only the assumptions you intend to test. Record why each scenario differs so the result remains interpretable later.
